The XR was originally designed as a Duo-Art reproducing grand piano, essentially a Model M extended by seven inches to accommodate its sophisticated player system. This design gave the instrument greater tonal depth and resonance while preserving the responsive touch and clarity Steinway is known for.
This example, serial number 273374, remains in excellent playing condition with its original Duo-Art system operational. The cabinet retains its elegant Steinway aesthetic — a true combination of craftsmanship, innovation, and musical artistry.
